Toronto Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provides emergency ambulance service to the City of Toronto. When somebody calls 911 for a medical emergency, Toronto EMS paramedics assess, treat, and transport the patient to a hospital emergency department. Toronto EMS is the largest municipal land ambulance service in Canada, and the sole emergency ambulance service in Toronto.

In Case of Emergency (ICE)

Sometimes emergencies occur in a public place where you may not know anyone. Sometimes you or a loved one may be unconscious and unable to communicate.

In an emergency situation, our paramedics treat you immediately based on your symptoms. But members of Police Services, hospital workers, and other emergency personnel may need to contact your next of kin in order to notify them of your circumstances or to obtain information about your medical history.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week is celebrated across North America May 22-25 and the theme this year is “EMS: More than a job – a calling”. Toronto EMS Paramedics and Emergency Medical Dispatchers respond to over 315,000 calls for emergency medical help per year – that is more than 850 calls every day.

Heart and Stroke Foundation and Toronto EMS unveil defibrillators at Toronto Botanical Gardens
To coincide with the start of Heart Month, the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Heart & Stroke Restart a Heart, a Life Program™, Toronto Emergency Medical Services, and Cardiac Safe City celebrate the installation of two Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at Toronto Botanical Gardens, one of the city’s most popular and frequented parks.
