On Tuesday May 13, a brave group of paramedics and other EMS staff had their heads shaved and ponytails lobbed off for the annual Cops for Cancer event. Fourteen staff members, calling themselves “Medics for the Cure,” banded together to raise approximately $7,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. CTV Host Ken Shaw was the Master of Ceremonies for the event at Scarborough Town Centre, and he kicked off the day by inviting paramedics Mike Zambri (who had dyed his hair pink) and Don Meikle to the stage. They were both great sports, and Don even agreed to lose his eyebrows too after spectators tossed another $150 into a police hat. Later, Jerry Dobson, who was the top Cops for Cancer fundraiser last year, said goodbye to his hair (and substantial beard) on live TV. Thanks to all the EMS staff members who agreed to lighten their loads for a good cause:
Bob Anderson, Tim Deel, Fred Cantera, Don Meikle, Paul Dicks, Jason Hess, Graham Marquette, Aga Khan, Mike Zambri, Danielle Pirrie, Ron Shinton, Bruce Campbell, and Jerry Dobson.
