Toronto Emergency Medical Services provides on-site, standby medical coverage for a variety of occasions,
such as film shoots, corporate functions, community events, and conventions. We are the sole ambulance provider within the City of Toronto boundaries that is licensed to transport patients in an emergency situation (under the Ambulance Act of Ontario).
Past events at which Toronto EMS paramedics have been present include:
- Film shoots for Dawn of the Dead, The Incredible Hulk, American Pie, and State of the Union, as well as television shows such as Degrassi High
- Community fundraising events such as the CIBC Run for the Cure, the Bell Walk for Kids, and the Becel Ride for Heart
- Events and festivals such as various Canada Day celebrations, the Toronto Marathon, the Taste of the Danforth, the Santa Claus Parade, and the Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival
- Meetings and conventions for companies such as Magna International, and for organizations such
as Alcoholics Anonymous
Toronto EMS has also organized emergency medical care at such large-scale events as the World Youth Days in 2002 and the R
olling Stones SARS relief concert in 2003. At the SARS relief concert, which was attended by approximately 490,000 people, two hundred TEMS paramedics were on site, both in the field and in a makeshift hospital set up inside the airport hangar. We treated over 3000 patients in the span of twelve hours, dealing with cases from scraped knees to heat strokes and drug overdoses. Toronto EMS paramedics also handed out over 450,000 bottles of water to prevent heat exhaustion.
